Horsemen close out XBT, seek further vengeance for 2014 championship game

The Horsemen recovered from their week 4 embarrassment with their second straight victory over the floundering Extreme Baby Throwers. Despite scoring a season high of 100 points (22 points above their season average), the Horsemen were able to sustain a Monday Night Football push by Antonio Gates to win a match not nearly as close as the score would say 107-100.

Antonio Brown continued his struggles without Big Ben, and Julio salvaged a decent showing with a fumble recovery for a touchdown – but both face the threat of benching in week 6. Edelman rounded out the wide receiver crew true to form off his bye and Tyler Eifert showed he’s capable of Gronk-like domination once given the appropriate end zone targets.

The Horsemen are rumored to have begun exploring their options at quarterback after Matt Ryan latest poor performance… but nothing is official.

In their fourth year of existence, after 5 weeks the Horsemen have been either 4-1 or 4-0-1 each year.

This win also gives the Horsemen the lead in the all-time series.

Week 6 is one of Horsemen Lore. It’s the week that has often brought on the downfall of the season – and the fabled Curse of the Horse. It’s a week that the Horsemen have never left victorious in the history of the franchise. The majority of these match-ups were pre-randomized schedule and the Horsemen faced Legs With Holes each year – this year they face the defending champion, Drunken Aces. While they may be the defending Champion, the Horsemen are 9-2 all-time against them… obviously one of those two coming in the 2014 championship game. That 78% winning percentage for the Horsemen is their 2nd highest (100% win percentage against Bumpy’s Berries).

While this week 6 features a different opponent, it features a similar set of challenges. TJ Yeldon has a groin injury, Julio Jones is nursing hamstring and toe problems, and Antonio Brown has reverted to high school level ability with Michael Vick at quarterback. The lineup is very much in flux with Lamar Miller threatening to make it to the field for the first time since week 2 and Gore attempting to overtake Brown at the flex.

The battle likely hangs on the duel at tight end position between the #1 and #2 in the position, Rob Gronkowski and Tyler Eifert, as well as the #1 and #2 wide receivers in Julio Jones and Larry Fitzgerald…. but it may truly come down to the 3rd best wide receiver on the team, Julian Edelman, stealing targets and touchdowns from Rob Gronkowski in what’s sure to be a high scoring affair.

They may have won the week 1 battle… but sweeping the season series is one more step at avenging their loss in the championship.
