2015 Draft Recap

The 2015 draft seemed to be the beginning of the separation of the lesser tiered teams from the top of the pack. Anthony Rhodes, owner of the Closet Hillbilly, led the way with several questionable decisions starting even before draft day with the selection of Trent Richardson as one of his six keepers over Tom Brady. He followed up this boneheaded decision by drafting an injured Brashad Perriman in the 2nd round, Terrance Williams in the 3rd round, and then loading up on handcuffs before selecting “Larry O’Donnell” in the 7th. Fittingly, in the days after the draft Terrance Williams and Larry Donnell found free agency along with starting kicker Steve Hauschka. The Closet Hillbilly strategy remains a mystery.

But enough about the sub-par Hillbilly.

The Return of Lamar Miller
Florida News - Sept. 22, 2013
Pre-draft negotiations led the Horsemen to reacquire Lamar Miller from the Extreme Baby Throwers in return for Emmanuel Sanders – a player who, despite a history of strong performance with the squad, was exhibiting some health issues in training camp. This, paired with the loss of Le’Veon Bell for the first couple weeks and what looks like the strongest set of starting wide receivers in Antonio Brown and Julio Jones, made the trade a no-brainer in the minds of Horsemen management.

1st Round – TJ Yeldon, Jacksonville Jaguars

Owning a piece of the Jacksonville Jaguars offense was a questionable decision, but Yeldon showed enough promise in camp to convince management to move on him with the 7th overall pick.

2nd Round – Julian Edelman, New England Patriots

The Horsemen were on the clock and in the market for a wide receiver for some depth behind Brown and Jones. The best available appeared to be Vincent Jackson, but the Drunken Aces approached the Horsemen with a proposal to exchange Edelman for the 2nd round pick. This was quickly accepted and the Horsemen welcome Julian Edelman to the team.

3rd Round – Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

An original Horseman, we’re looking to see the Matt Ryan – Julio Jones combination come on strong in 2015.

4th Round – John Brown, Arizona Cardinals

In an effort to build further depth to the wide receiver corp with the questionable injury status of Edelman, John Brown was an appealing option with the Fitzgerald aging quickly and Michael Floyd’s fingers breaking through his skin.

5th Round – Julius Thomas, Jacksonville Jaguars

Another seemingly questionable add with the struggling Jags offense – the Horsemen are looking for Julius to simply show half the production he had in Denver to power a historically weak tight end position on the squad.

6th Round – Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles

A member of the 2014 team, Ertz was brought back in the event Julius Thomas didn’t come through as the top receiving option in Jacksonville.

7th Round – Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins v Buffalo Bills
A young quarterback on the upswing with a plethora of a weapons, he should serve as a solid back up to Ryan and is expected to compete for starts.

8th Round – Danny Woodhead, San Diego Chargers

Melvin Gordon may not be the answer in San Diego, especially with his lackluster blocking ability. Woodhead could be a steal at this point in the draft.

9th Round – New York Jets D/ST

A first week matchup against the ailing Cleveland Browns made this an appealing option.

10th Round – Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens

Another returning player from the 2014 team, we’re glad to have his presence back in the locker room.
